Typical flow rates
- Kitchen tap
- 0.1 L/s (6 L/min)
- Shower
- 0.15 L/s (9 L/min)
- Garden hose
- 0.2 L/s (3 gal/min)
- Household water main
- 1.3 m³/h
- Pool pump
- 10 m³/h ≈ 44 gal/min
- Fire hose
- 30 L/s (476 gal/min)
Good to know: A garden hose flows about 0.2 L/s; a fire hose about 30 L/s.
About this tool
Convert flow rate between L/s, L/min, m³/h, US gal/min and CFM — for pumps, plumbing and ventilation.
Formula
1 m³/h = 16.667 L/min; 1 US gal/min = 3.7854 L/min; 1 CFM = 0.4719 L/s; 1 L/s = 60 L/min.
Reference values
- 1 m³/h = 16.67 L/min
- 1 GPM (US) = 3.785 L/min
- 1 CFM = 28.32 L/min
Questions people ask
How do you convert m³/h to L/min?
One cubic metre is 1,000 litres and an hour is 60 minutes, so multiply m³/h by 16.667: 1 m³/h = 16.67 L/min.
How many L/min is 1 GPM?
1 US gallon per minute = 3.785 L/min. US pump ratings read about 20% higher in GPM for the same pump.
What is CFM?
Cubic feet per minute, used for air compressors and ventilation: 1 CFM = 0.4719 L/s of liquid volume.
